As the Rio+20 Earth Summit — the largest U.N. conference ever — ends in disappointment, we’re joined by the leading Canadian scientist, environmentalist and broadcaster David Suzuki. As host of the long-runningCBC program, "The Nature of Things," seen in more than 40 countries, Suzuki has helped educate millions about the rich biodiversity of the planet and the threats it faces from human-driven global warming. In 1990 he co-founded the David Suzuki Foundation which focuses on sustainable ecology and in 2009, he was awarded the Right Livelihood Award. Suzuki joins us from the summit in Rio de Janeiro to talk about the climate crisis, the student protests in Quebec, his childhood growing up in an internment camp, and his daughter Severn’s historic speech at the Rio Earth Summit in 1992 when she was 12 years-old. "If we don’t see that we are utterly embedded in the natural world and dependent on Mother Nature for our very well-being and survival ... then our priorities will continue to be driven by man-made constructs like national borders, economies, corporations, markets," Suzuki says. "Those are all human created things. They shouldn’t dominate the way we live. It should be the biosphere, and the leaders in that should be indigenous people who still have that sense that the earth is truly our mother, that it gives birth to us. You don’t treat your mother the way we treat the planet or the biosphere today." [Includes rush transcript]

The Blueprint -- Indiegogo
THIS IS A WORLD-SAVING PROJECT
As climate change devastates our world, climate skepticism continues to rise... With the failure of our mainstream news media, the job of frank and accurate climate reporting falls upon the independent community. While educational awareness drives public demand for change, the extent to that demand will depend on our methods for attracting the widest demographic possible. For the level of money invested - film is by far our most effective means to motivate our masses, and clear away our crippling uncertainties. With the help of top experts in climate science and sustainability solutions, we will convey our most important discoveries with captivating visuals and a special narrative twist - strategically designed to maximize engagement!

Made exclusively for all communicators of climate change, it’s a rare in-depth analysis of our media efforts on climate education over the last decade, e.g. examining the impacts of studies put forward by leading policy think tanks that have influenced many within our media to abandon their efforts. Their latest study-backed advice is to expel climate change from the energy debate as an answer to skeptics – a tactic that is now ostensibly favored by the White House. I present - ‘Science VS. Denial: The Truth About Climate Education.’ A tale of how we have arrived at THE most critical juncture in our climate change awareness.

State of the Future 2012, a quick introduction
What is the “state of the future”? How successfully are we tackling global challenges threatening our collective future? These questions are asked annually by the Millennium Project.
The Millennium Project is a non-profit think tank of futurists, scholars, business planners, and policy makers from around the world. Each year, it asks its 40 Nodes to collect judgements on emerging trends and developments. This work is distilled into an annual State of the Future report.
The Millennium Project identifies 15 global challenges facing humanity. They include sustainable development and climate change, democratisation, bridging the rich-poor gap, improving women’s status and tackling transnational organised crime.
The Australian node of the Millennium Project is hosted by the Institute for Sustainable Futures at the University of Technology, Sydney. This year we decided to do something a bit different. In partnership with The Conversation, we have assembled 15 articles by leading academics, each giving an Australian perspective. Together, they provide a fascinating snapshot of Australia grappling with a shifting future.
These articles will be submitted to the Millennium Project’s State of the Future 2012 report. Over coming days, we hope you enjoy these glimpses into Australia’s future...

Energy Revolution 2012 | Greenpeace International
Energy [R]evolution 2012 provides a consistent fundamental pathway for how to protect our climate: getting the world from where we are now to where we need to be by phasing out fossil fuels and cutting CO2 emissions while ensuring energy security.
Open publication - Free publishing
The Energy [R]evolution Scenario has became a well known and well respected energy analysis since it was first published for Europe in 2005. This is the fourth Global Energy [R]evolution scenario; earlier editions were published in 2007, 2008 and 2010.
The evolution of the scenarios has included a detailed employment analysis in 2010, and now this edition expands the research further to incorporate new demand and transport projections, new constraints for the oil and gas pathways and techno-economic aspects of renewable heating systems. While the 2010 edition had two scenarios – a basic and an advanced Energy [R]evolution, this edition puts forward only one; based on the previous ‘advanced’ case.

Ending Overfishing
Ending Overfishing - YouTube: Despite an increased awareness of overfishing, the majority of people still know very little about the scale of the destruction being wrought on the oceans. This film presents an unquestionable case for why overfishing needs to end and shows that there is still an opportunity for change. Through reform of the EU's Common Fisheries Policy, fisheries ministers and members of the European Parliament can end overfishing. But only if you pressure them.
