You Are Stealing Our Future: Greta Thunberg, 15, Condemns the World’s Inaction on Climate Change | Democracy Now!

Fifteen-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg addressed the U.N. plenary last night in Katowice, Poland, condemning global inaction in the face of catastrophic climate change.

"…Until you start focusing on what needs to be done, rather than what is politically possible, there is no hope. We cannot solve a crisis without treating it as a crisis. We need to keep the fossil fuels in the ground, and we need to focus on equity. And if solutions within the system are so impossible to find, then maybe we should change the system itself…"

thoughts for a friend –

thoughts for a friend  –

maintaining a healthy relationship with the environment, respecting animals and nature, not over-using your "resources" could be a good theme!

developing respect for and reverence of "Mother Nature" and finding our place in the larger scheme of things... Finding balance! We have much to learn from "the old ways" as it seems that we have lost our way in the world of capitalism and exploitation. In these current times it would be good to remember that there are no jobs on a dead planet! So, I would say taking our place as part of a family rather than as overlords, and to be Stewards of the planet, would be good :)

One ecosystem of which we are a part - we depend on it for our very lives - we are not separate from Nature. We have a responsibility to help restore and maintain a balance, not only to survive as a species but for the good of all life, our brother and sister plants animals sky water earth... To walk the right path in order to be true human beings and not just a plague upon the planet.

September 8 – Rise for Climate, Jobs, and Justice! and Vote on November 6! :: People's Climate March 2018

On September 8th, after months of organizing and movement-building, the Peoples Climate Movement will move tens of thousands of people across the country into action, joining partners from around the world, to show our elected leaders that we demand action on climate change.

Eight weeks later, millions more will take those demands to the polls, making Climate, Jobs, and Justice central issues in the mid-term elections and beyond.

Will you join us? Sign up at peoplesclimate.org

In the past year Trump has launched unprecedented attacks on our environment, the clean power plan, and the Environmental Protection Agency. His administration has trampled on the rights of frontline communities hardest hit by climate change and deregulated protections for our precious natural resources. The good news? More than ever, people are ready to take action, to hit the streets, and fight back.

Throughout 2018, using the Global Climate Action Summit and the 2018 mid-term elections as motivating moments, the Peoples Climate Movement will execute a comprehensive organizing, mobilizing, and movement-building program.

Launching this spring and escalating throughout the summer, our 2018 plans will manifest on September 8th in hundreds of events across the country with tens of thousands of people taking part in events and actions for climate, jobs, and justice. Then, even more civically-engaged Americans will demand climate action at the ballot box in the mid-term elections.

We will be calling for a transition to a new 100% clean and renewable energy future that creates millions of family sustaining jobs, and ensures that racial and economic justice are core to action on climate in every community.

Our communities, our planet, and our future depend on a climate movement that reaches all corners of this country. To change everything, it takes everyone — and with your help we can build a sustainable world for generations to come.

President Trump Is A Master Of The ‘Gish Gallop’ Method And It’s Making Us All Crazy | GOOD

It’s understandable for heads to spin as President Donald Trump ushers in a “post-truth” era. Despite new technology making it easier than ever to hunt down the facts, we’re finding it increasingly difficult to sift out sly deceits and distill credible information. We’re finding ourselves overwhelmed by the new administration’s lies—both big and small. But don’t feel defeated just yet. This tactic of fatiguing the public with falsehoods has been used before, and more importantly, it has been overcome...

10 steps to deal with our so-called president and take back our democratic government

Bernice King posted on her Be A King’s Facebook page '10 steps to deal with (this president) and take back our democratic government'. She passed on this wise advice. I'll pass it on to those who espouse similar ideals:

1. Don’t use his name; EVER (45 will do)

2. Remember this is a regime and he’s not acting alone;

3. Do not argue with those who support him–it doesn’t work;

4. Focus on his policies, not his orange-ness and mental state;

5. Keep your message positive; they want the country to be angry and fearful because this is the soil from which their darkest policies will grow;

6. No more helpless/hopeless talk;

7. Support artists and the arts;

8. Be careful not to spread fake news. Check it;

9. Take care of yourselves; and

10. Resist!

Then, Bernice also offered this wisdom on her Facebook page:

‘Keep demonstrations peaceful. In the words of John Lennon, “When it gets down to having to use violence, then you are playing the system’s game. The establishment will irritate you – pull your beard, flick your face – to make you fight! Because once they’ve got you violent, then they know how to handle you. The only thing they don’t know how to handle is non-violence and humor.”

‘When you post or talk about him, don’t assign his actions to him, assign them to “The Republican Administration,” or “The Republicans.” This will have several effects: the Republican legislators will either have to take responsibility for their association with him or stand up for what some of them don’t like; he will not get the focus of attention he craves; Republican representatives will become very concerned about their re-elections.’

UNDERNEATH THE MASK OF A NARCISSIST | #RESIST

::: remind you of anyone?

UNDERNEATH THE MASK OF A NARCISSIST

1.  Is a person who will never hold themselves accountable for anything untoward.  They will shift the blame onto others and never take responsibility for their bad behaviour.  Their failures are always someone else’s fault.  Never let someone blame you for a mistake you didn’t make.

2.  Is a person who manipulates others into behaving and thinking as they deem fit.  They cause chaos where once there was none, and pit people against each other.  They will twist words, sometimes a hint of truth brewed with lies and stirred well.

3.  Is a person who will try to isolate you from your friends and your family.  They don’t want anyone else to be the focus of your attention.  They want you all to themselves, without a support network.  By causing rifts in friendships and family, when the relationship crumbles,  who will you turn to?  In their minds they know that you will think twice about leaving if your friends and family are long gone.

4.  Is a control freak…  Someone who wants everything on their terms, no matter what the cost.  It’s their way or the highway.  Their point of view is and must be correct.  They are ruthless, often cruel in achieving their goals.

5.  Is someone who lacks empathy.  Underneath the fake exterior lies a heart as cold as ice.  They are unabYou'll see them for who they arele or refuse to put themselves in another’s shoes.  They don’t care if they hurt you, their children, their parents, anyone, as long as they don’t get hurt themselves.  If someone gets hurt, that’s ok, they deserved it.

6.  Is someone who wants to keep you financially dependent on them.  If you don’t have money or an income, how can you leave?

7.  Is someone who is a pathological liar.  They are convincing and accomplished liars making up lies faster than you can question them.

8.  Is a high flyer..  Someone who will make sure they get to the top and doesn’t care who they trample on to get there.  They will lie, deceive, backstab, exploit and fake their own achievements to get the desired result.  If you happen to be in the way of their goals, don’t be surprised if your character is assassinated or you are blamed for things you did not do.

9.  Is a vindictive bully.  Someone who will gossip, lie and slander their target without mercy.

10. Is someone with low self esteem.  Despite what they often portray, someone who is full of self-confidence, this is someone  who is extremely jealous of your popularity.  They will take on your mannerisms to become just like you while destroying your reputation in the process.

11.  Is someone who appears to be very charismatic when you meet them initially.  The longer you know a narcissist, the less likely you are to be fooled by that false persona.

12.  Is someone who has promised you the world but fails to deliver.  Their promises mean nothing.  They will promise anything to ensure their demands are met.  Once they achieve what they set out to achieve, they will deny ever having made them.

13.  Is someone who fears abandonment.  By doing so, they will reject first to put themselves in control of the situation.

14.  Is someone who will refuse to acknowledge your very existence as a result of some perceived slight in order to gain power and control.  The silent treatment is one of the most severe forms of emotional abuse causing the target to doubt their self worth, often described as mental murder.

15.  Is someone who lacks self control.  A narcissist will  often overreact and display uncontrollable rage not unlike childish tantrums one would expect to see from a five year old child.  Their rage may be fuelled by something as little as a contrary view point.

16.  Is someone who needs to be admired… Their puffed up self-image needs feeding.  A narcissist needs admiration and attention like a drug addict needs supply.

17.  Is someone who will push you to your limits to get a reaction.  When you react they will try to make you appear out of control and they play the victim card.

18.  Is some one who believes that the rules don’t apply to them.  They are risk takers believing that they are above the law and won’t get caught.

19.  Is someone who is arrogant, thriving off the admiration of others.  They will flaunt their wealth, their accomplishments, real or imagined, in order to boost their fragile ego.

20.  Is someone who is lacking in morality yet will be the first to judge the moral standards of others.

21.  Is someone who will never be satisfied.  They will become bored and want more.  The perfect, wife, husband, children, house…. None of it will ever be enough.

22.  Is someone who is highly reactive to the slightest form of criticism.

23.  Is someone who projects onto others behaviours that they can’t or won’t accept in themselves.  A narcissist has a strong desire to conceal their weaknesses and  not face up to their own inadequacies.

24.  Is someone who may apologise but unless there is something in it for them, the apology is just empty words which means nothing.

25.  Is someone who may promise to change their behaviour which is basically changing who they are, their very personality…  The question must be… Is that possible?

A true narcissist will put a tremendous amount of effort into the creation of an effigy,  which when viewed by others signifies something wholesomely good,  a beacon to draw attention.  In reality this closely resembles the moth to the flame.

People's Climate Movement ::: March on April 29 ::: Lets Do This!

Join the People’s Climate Movement this April 29th in Washington, D.C. and across the country to stand up for our communities and climate.
Throughout the first 100 days in office, the People's Climate Movement is organizing a country-wide arc of action, culminating on April 29th in Washington DC in a powerful mobilization to unite all of our movements. To change everything, we need everyone.

Why we’re marching

There is no denying it: Donald Trump’s election is a threat to the future of our planet, the safety of our communities, and the health of our families.

This new administration is attacking the hard-won protections of our climate, health, and communities, and the rights of people of color, workers, indigenous people, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA, young people, and more.

If the policies he proposed on the campaign trail are implemented, they will destroy our climate, decimate our jobs and livelihoods, and undermine the civil rights and liberties won in many hard fought battles.

It’s up to us to stop that from happening before it starts.

Our fights are tied together, and we will only succeed together. That’s why, from now through the first 100 days and beyond, we are taking action and standing up for everything and everyone we love — and we are calling on everyone to join us on April 29th; for a massive march to bring our demands to the streets of Washington, D.C.

We’re ready to fight back, and we are ready to build a resistance to Trump and Congress’ attacks on our climate, our communities, and our jobs that stands alongside the unprecedented Women’s Marches and other powerful rallies that shook the globe in the hours and days following the inauguration of Donald Trump and the 115th Congress.

On April 29th, we will march for our families. We will march for our air, our water, and our land. We will march for clean energy jobs and climate justice. We will march for our communities and the people we love.

In 2014, we said that it takes everyone to change everything. Now, with everything at stake, everyone has a part to play.

People’s Climate Platform –
Directly and rapidly reduce greenhouse gas and toxic pollution to successfully combat climate change and improve public health

Mandate a transition to an equitable and sustainable New Energy and Economic Future that limits the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels

Provide a Just Transition for communities and workers negatively impacted by the shift to a New Energy and Economic Future that includes targeted economic opportunity and provides stable income, health care, and education

Demand that every job pays a wage of at least $15 an hour, protects workers, and provides a good standard of living, pathways out of poverty, and a right to organize

Ensure that in the New Energy and Economic Future, investments are targeted to create pathways for low-income people and people of color to access good jobs and improve the lives of communities of color, indigenous peoples, low-income people, small farmers, women, and workers.

Make bold investments in the resilience of states, cities, tribes, and communities that are threatened by climate change; including massive investments in infrastructure systems from water, transportation, and solid waste to the electrical grid and safe, green building and increasing energy efficiency that will also create millions of jobs in the public and private sector

Reinvest in a domestic industrial base that drives towards an equitable and sustainable New Energy and Economic Future, and fight back against the corporate trade-induced global race to the bottom

Market and policy based mechanisms must protect human rights and critical, native ecosystems and reduce pollution at source

Conserving the Future is a Matter of Public Trust - Project Coyote

Children suing state and federal governments argue climate change will be irreversible and current generations should not rob the next of a stable, predictable climate. Treves says the same argument can be made regarding wildlife extinction. Photo: Thomas Good

Last May, a group of children persuaded the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to compel the state government to regulate greenhouse gases. Their case was based on a claim that the atmosphere falls under a long-standing legal principle: the government is obligated to hold some resources in trust for public use, now and in the future.
“Atmospheric trust” lawsuits are also advancing in other state courts and two federal courts. Their arguments arise from common-law principles, as well as the U.S. Constitution’s guarantees of intergenerational justice for the beneficiaries identified in its Preamble: “to secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.”
The U.S. Constitution does not specifically mention the environment, so marshaling it in such cases depends on a common law doctrine called the “public trust” – the concept that certain assets must be held in trust for our children and theirs. This doctrine has guided almost 200 years of U.S. jurisprudence.
The Massachusetts case is just one of many that might revolutionize how the U.S. and state governments preserve our climate, water, and wildlife...

"We Want to Stop Fracking Now": Up to 10,000 Rally on Eve of DNC to Demand #Climate Justice | Democracy Now! || Demonstrators Demand 'Clean Energy Revolution' on Eve of Dem Convention | Common Dreams

 Democracy Now! hit the streets Sunday to speak to some of the thousands of protesters who marched through the streets of Philadelphia to demand a ban on fracking and a transition to clean energy. Despite a scorching heat wave, up to 10,000 people took to the streets for hours. This comes as climate change-fueled extreme weather continues across the world. In California, a wildfire north of Los Angeles doubled in size Sunday, just one day after a burned body was discovered outside a home in Santa Clarita north of Los Angeles.

TRANSCRIPT: "We Want to Stop Fracking Now": Up to 10,000 Rally on Eve of DNC to Demand Climate Justice | Democracy Now!

– INCLUDES: TIM JUDSON of NIRS: My name is Tim Judson. I’m with a group called the Nuclear Information and Resource Service based in Washington, D.C., and I’m here with the Nuclear-Free, Carbon-Free contingent to the March for a Clean Energy Revolution. We’re here to send the message that a clean energy future has got to be both nuclear-free and carbon-free. Right now, there’s, you know, attempts to bail out the nuclear industry going on across the country, including in New York state, where Governor Cuomo is trying to build a reputation for himself as a clean energy governor, is trying to do a seven-point—include a $7.6 billion bailout to nuclear power plants in a supposed clean energy standard that he wants to pass in a week. And this is going to be a disaster for renewable energy and our clean energy future. There’s nothing about bailing our nuclear power plants that puts any solar panels on anybody’s roofs, builds any windmills or gets anybody energy efficiency. It’s really going to prop up the energy status quo. [see

7.24 Make 2016 the Year for a Clean Energy Revolution! March with the Nuclear-Free, Carbon-Free Contingent on July 24

Nuclear-Free, Carbon-Free at the People's Climate March September 21, 2014

June 28, 2016
Dear Friends,
Join us on July 24 as we join thousands in the streets of Philadelphia marching for a Clean Energy Revolution!
We are forming a Nuclear-Free, Carbon-Free Contingent, and we want you to join us. We will demand an end to nuclear power and fossil fuels, and a just transition to a 100% renewable energy world. We will march with thousands from coast to coast on the eve of the Democratic National Convention, calling on all of our political leaders to take immediate action.
Let us know you plan to come by filling in the short form below.
You can find out more at the March for a Clean Energy Revolution website. There is information about transportation and lodging options, including over two dozen buses being organized from cities throughout the east coast and the Midwest.

The Nuclear-Free, Carbon-Free Contingent facebook page has updates on the march and where to find us in Philadelphia. You can use the page to invite your friends to join us, as well.
For those able to make a weekend of it in Philadelphia, there is even more happening on Saturday, July 23:
  • The Summit for a Clean Energy Revolution: workshops and speeches from national leaders, grassroots heroes, and frontline organizers on how to build the movement.
  • PowerShift 2016: the conference for young climate activists to learn, network, share skills, and build the next generation of leadership.
  • Nuclear-Free, Carbon-Free meeting: meet with anti-nuclear and -uranium activists as we make plans for 2017 and beyond (details TBA, contact Tim Judson for more info).
If you can't make it and/or would like to help more people attend, please make a donation to support the Nuclear-Free, Carbon-Free contingent. We are making hundreds of signs and banners to get our message.
Funds raised will also help First Nations and anti-uranium activists make the trip to Philadelphia. Nuclear power is dirty from the start, from the radioactive and toxic mining and processing of uraniumto over 15,000 abandoned mines affecting Native American and rural communities throughout the Western US and Canada.

Support The #OcNukeDaily and #OccupyNuclear - GoFundMe

Greetings! I have started a gofundme campaign for "OcNuke" / #OccupyNuclear‬ Please consider helping out! – My hope here is to recover a portion of my expenses for the purchase of a new laptop, recoup some of the monthly expenses for #OccupyNuclear, and to just have something to live on for a little while.
(see the gofundme page for more about my situation)
Following something of a sabbatical, and then a push for COP21 and my #BustTheMyth / "don't nuke the climate" campaign, my current plan is to revitalize #OccupyNuclear after the first of the year. My goal is to publicize and increase media exposure for, and, to inspire personal involvements in, world-wide anti-nuclear efforts, actions, news, networking and events. GlÓR NA HAOISE - Songs of Solidarity and Resistence

We all know the story of how Royal Dutch Shell bullied the people from An Ros Dumhach (Rossport).

Last saturday Rónán Ó Snodaigh played a concert in An Taibhdhearc in Galway for the launch of 'GlÓR NA HAOISE - Songs of Solidarity and Resistence' - a lavish and beautifully presented 3-cd collection celebrating the on-going campaign of civil disobedience.

The back cover of the cd has a quote from the singer and storyteller Liam Clancy - 'Written history is nothing more than the propaganda of the victors. If you want the real history you'll have to go to the folksongs.'

This 3-cd collection is just that - folksongs - from Francis Black, Mickey Coleman Singer/Songwriter Tyrone Ireland, Noelle MacDonnell, Margaretta D'Arcy, Paranoid Visions, Camilla Cantata, Mick Blake, Donal Finn, The Living Stream, Mícheál Ó Séighin, Jinx Lennon, Sinéad Uí Fhaoláín, Sean Cregan, Captain A, Sorcha Fox, Breeda Murphy, Louis de Paor agus John Spillane, Dr Owens Wiwa, Catriona Murphy, The People of Ogoniland, Astrid Ní Mhongáín, Liam Ó Maonlaí, Finbar Cafferkey, John Hoban, Fintan Vallely, Éamon Ó Súilleabháin agus Seosamh Mac Donnacha, Micheál Ó Conghaile, Donal O'Kelly, Chris Duignan, Tara Sheehy, Barry Johnston, Damhnait de Brún, Queen elvis, Cormac Lally, Kevin Burke (musician) & Ged Foley, Treasa Elsafty, Ethel Corduff, Din de Paor, Gréagóir Ó Dúill, Rita Ann Higgins, Breandán Ó Beaglaoich, Esse Egesse, The Rebel Souls, Indica, Cian Finn, Barry Krishna, Lee Barley & the Rossport Solidarity Camp, Colm Henry & Wildfire, Rosemary Woods, Leo Moran & Anto Thistlethwaite, The Latchiko's, Áine Uí Fhoghlú, Pete Mullineux, Sarah Clancy, Lee Barley, An Galar Dub, This Natchez, Niamh N Lochlainn, ian Lynch, Damien Dempsey.

GLÓR NA HAOISE
SONGS OF SOLIDARITY

In the autumn of 2011 shell announced in their monthly newsletter ‘corrib gas update’ that the tunnel boring machine (tbm) which was to bore under sruth mhada chonn estuary had been built, and was soon to arrive in erris. In naming the machine, they declared, ‘fionnuala has been chosen, in honour of the legend of the children of lir, which has a strong local resonance’.

Fionnuala, of the children of lir, who, along with her three brothers, spent their last 300 years on the waters of iorras domnann (erris). And fionnuala, shell’s tunnel boring machine, weighing in at nearly 500 tonnes. A behemoth to dredge through ancestral memories. In appropriating the name of fionnuala, shell would have us fall under a spell. An amnesia of forgetting and accepting. That which destroys the old myth becomes the new myth. A response was called for.  And so it was that ‘glór na haoise’ came to be, to reclaim, restore and give voice to the pain and indignation felt by the people of northwest mayo and to celebrate their long stand for truth and justice.

Each song and poem tells its own unique part of the story of the struggle. They tell of the arrival of enterprise oil and its successor royal dutch shell, and of the early years of the shell to sea campaign. They tell of the jailing of the rossport five now ten years past and of the execution, with the connivance of shell, of nigerian activist ken saro-wiwa twenty years ago.

They speak of the potentially lethal attacks on local farmer willie corduff, who was assaulted by several balaclaved men while lying under a shell truck in protest, and of fisherman pat o’donnell,  whose boat was boarded and sunk also by masked men, an event the gardaí failed to investigate adequately, and for which no-one was ever held accountable. They tell of the arrival of shell’s pipe-laying ship the solitaire, and the hunger strike of shell to sea campaigner maura harrington. Of the arrival off the coast of two irish navy gunboats and hundreds of gardaí and private security, all to surround and repress a small community of campaigners. They tell of garda brutality, courtroom lies, booze and bribes. They sing of the indomitable spirit of the rossport solidarity camp, their actions, sit-ins, lock-ons and laughter. And of the journey, arrival, sinking and resurrection of  shell's tunnel boring machine in the boglands of gleann na muaigh.

They sing of freedom and of the beauty of erris,

in celebration, we remember…
